Celebrating Black History Month- Fashion Icon of the Week

Josephine Baker

As I searched the web to find African American style icons, I stumbled across "All the Rage" which seems to be a blog connected to LA times. I bumped into a picture of the stunning and elegant " Creole Goddess" Josephine Baker. ( birth name: Freda Josephine McDonald) Baker is not only known for her beauty, elegance and spectacular singing and dancing but she was a civil rights activist.  She is also known for her beautiful dresses and sensual swag that stole everyone´s breath.
Born in St. Louis Missouri on June 3rd, 1906 and died in France on April 12, 1975.  Just to give a brief summary of her wonderful acts, she toured around the United States and France with many production teams. She also performed for the troops during WWII and was awarded  "Medal of the Resistance with Rosette" and named "Chevalier of the Legion of honor" by the French gov´t. In the 50´s and 60´s, she fought racism in NYC and NAACP dedicated May 20th as a day of dedication to Josephine Baker.

Check her biography out by clicking her name above which is higlighted in pink.
