Ring The New Year In With Self Love- An Open Letter From Me to YOU

I was told " I just need time to fall in love with you again" about a year ago...

Those words pierced through my heart- knowingly that I did not deserve that lack of emotion. I knew that I had given it my all, was insanely in love with him but he was no longer in love with me. I am an emotion driven person and that phrase along with other ones led me into thinking that I was not good enough to have someone in " LOVE" with me.

However, as I look back to those moments, I realize that I was at fault for that. I had lost the desire to love myself. How is it possible for someone to love you, if you don't love yourself? Self Love is one of the strongest emotions I've ever felt and took the longest to pursue. Why? With self love comes confidence, persistence, motivation and courage.

Everyday I work hard to become a better ME. This self love has pushed me to overcome fears and tribulations. Ladies, love is beautiful and many times we dive head first into this "loving someone else more than anything" emotion. STOP. Do not give YOU away if you don't even appreciate and love YOU! It took so long for me to understand that. I confused the concept of feeling loved as " give love to receive more love" but when I had nothing else left to give, I felt empty. Many times I replay those moments in my head and I get so disgusted because how dare I place myself so low? Loving yourself sounds like the most simplest thing but those words do not describe how big that emotion should be. Once I understood, accepted and started working on it, I felt a huge difference in my persona and relationship. A positive one I should say!
Now don't get me wrong- with self love still comes confusion, disappointment and desire to change. I am not going to sit here and tell you all that when you learn how to love yourself, you are going to feel perfect- NO. I have moments where I want to give up and feel as if I am not good enough. But then that feeling pops back in and tells me to pick up my head and keep pushing- to me that is self love. Not giving up on becoming a better me whether it's a new job, pursuing a dream, losing weight and etc.
It's a working process and trust me I am not perfect at it. We constantly think that we need a "knight in amour" to save us- to wipe our tears and give us strength. How can some who doesn't know you better than you fix problems that you know better than them? Men aren't perfect so you have to be able to take whatever is thrown at you and not allow it to even scratch the surface. They too have obstacles and believe it or not eventually want to feel the infamous emotion called  " love" Many men are afraid to allow a woman love them- making it difficult for them to open up to allow themselves to love. If you are able to build your self love- those moments will not affect you. If my self love were to be stronger and stable, those words and distant actions would of not caused me to be depressed nor to blame myself for every problem or argument that occurred.  I am not an expert nor a man therefore I can't even speak up on that topic. You are the creator of the definition of love. When we are hurt, we tend to forget all the amazing qualities that we possess and become vulnerable.

So where to begin?
As for myself, I had to take a step back and analyze what was occurring in my life. I slowly started listening to that voice inside that spoke to me. I simplified everything around me- from instead of staying home and crying my eyes out to hanging out with MY friends to volunteering. I went from writing/releasing my anger and sadness on social media to writing them down in my personal journal. I also got a gym membership and those 2-3 hours I spent in the gym, I would leave my phone behind in my locker. Those 3 hours were for ME. I slowly started mending and taking care of my inner and outer. Its all different for everyone. So I would say:

- Write down the things you want to change/ improve in your life. Choose 2 things and work on that. Allow those 2 things be the focus of this year. You have to start small. Now if you see after a few months you have improved on those 2 things, then pick another thing from your list.

- Write down the things you enjoy to do but do not do often. Then at least once a week or every other week, do something off your list. Again, start slow. Changes do not occur over night!

- Write 3 things that you can do YOURSELF to become a better YOU. For example, I felt extremely over weight so I started weight training and eating better. Little things like that make a difference!

- Treat yourself once in a while. I am not saying to go on a shopping spree but if getting your nails done make you happy or feel better- get them done! Shit, why not? You work hard and doing little things like that will remind you to keep yourself up.

- Limit your time around people that are negative around you. If there are a group of people that make you feel not too good about yourself, distance yourself. Remember that distance does not always have to do with the " physical space"...

- Spend time with people that lift you and allow you to be YOU. However, allow yourself to always have time for yourself to do the things you enjoy doing. Yes it is fun to be with friends but allow yourself some space to spend alone.

- SMILE- Smiling can make you feel happy even when you are not as well as making others happy

- When feeling down and discouraged, always remind yourself that you are beautiful and you are a working progress. NO ONE IS BORN PERFECT.

Many of us want to become the woman of one man's dream. I admit it, I tried to become that and must I say that we don't always receive the deserved outcome. Therefore, I am on the quest of making ME happy.  I can say with my head up high " lucky is the man that takes away my last name to give me his, for I know my worth.

Lipstick of The Month- Wet n Wild Mega Last Liquid Lip Color

Greetings Fashionistas!

Summer is slowly approaching and bright lipsticks are making a comeback! During the summer, I do not use much make up- except a tinted moisturizer with SPF and a bright lipstick to give me that " flirty" look.
I decided to try out a couple of " summer shade" lipsticks from my local drug store and I must say, I am very impressed.

I have chosen the " Wet n Wild Mega Last Liquid Lip Color- 924A Click On My Hyper Pink" as the lipstick of the month for May 2013.

I bought it at Walgreens for only $3.49!!! It looks very well- however, you must apply a couple of coats to give it the rich look ( as shown in the picture below). As far as the texture, it feels like a Matte Lip stain. It dries up very quickly so perhaps moisturizing your lips before applying may help. I don't like the brush- it's more like a long sponge but useful enough to be used to line my lips first. It is not one of the best lipsticks when compared to pricey products but for the price- it's decent. Also, this is one of those lip products that you may want to carry with you during the day so that you can re-apply.

Nonetheless, I like it. It's an adorable color, super affordable, looks great on every complexion and you can purchase it in any local drug store.
ENJOY!!!

Haul from Seventeen Magazine!

Hello my beautiful Fashionistas!
So, Seventeen magazine sent me a box full of summer time essentials ( pretty dope, right?) and I can truthfully say that I loved EVERYTHING! But I am going to cut it down to my top 4 favs which I recommend you all to get!
1. Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration- now not only does this smell amazing but it leaves your skin nice and smooth! I always had trouble finding sunscreen that didn't leave my skin feeling too oily- until I tried this! It's sooo important to protect your skin !
2. Schick Quattro trim Style- this has to be the coolest razor ever. It has two sides and its electronically powered. It is very gentle and it does not cause any irritation on your bikini line! So no need to wear those mini shorts to cover your bikini line!
3. Skintimate Strawberry Tangerine shaving cream- I have super sensitive skin and for a moment I thought that the reason why I got horrible nicks and cuts after shaving was because of the razors. After trying this shaving cream, not only did it smell heavenly but no cuts at all! It's super thick and leaves your legs nice and smooth!

Again! I loved all the products and I encourage you all to purchase them at your local drug store!

Hasta Lluego!

Must Have Shoes of the Week!!!!

As memorial weekend approaches, my thoughts range from finally having my mom's famous Criollo T- Bone steak to what the heck am I going to wear on my feet! Don't get me wrong, I don't dress up for BBQ's but I do want to look caaaauuuuteeee! So, as I started researching ( aka " Internet Window Shopping) I bumped into a couple of cute shoes. Depending on the ground and occasion, heels can be somewhat appropriate but you don't want to look over dressed so I prefer to go with some flats or wedges. Depending on how comfortable you want to be, you can decide which style works best. So below, I have posted some AFFORDABLE shoes that can look great on any complexion and body type. As for myself, I prefer the wedge because it makes me look longer meaning that I can eat more and I love how the air feels up there. lol.

Add some " Colorblocking" to your outfit with this beautiful wedge which is also available in Marine/Blue. " Milesbtwn" not only adds height and shapes your legs, but also is comfortable enough to enjoy your BBQ. This shoe is perfect if you are in a grassy area because of the solid colors. As far as the outfit, you don't have to worry too much because the shoe itself brightens up the look.

$ 109.00 ( Sale online- Buy one and get 2nd 50% off)

There is a great sale going on! If you buy anything from the sale category, it gets an additional 25% off!

I know that some of my ladies want to be super comfy but trendy at the same time! Don't worry! I got you!! Play up some shorts with this very trendy oxford shoe. The grey is very chic but the colors give a sudden pop and adds playfulness to your look! I love this shoe and for the price, its definitely a steal.

Brookings -$ 26.24 PLUS 25% off PLUS Free Shipping

As I continued looking through the website, I found very cute flat sandals.  The awesome thing about these sandals is that the detail plays as an accent and accessory to your outfit. You can simply add some color by applying a bright nail polish on your toesies. I wasn't a big fan of the tassels because I thought they made the sandal look cheap BUT after trying them on, they look cute.  They work well with mid length trousers. They are also available in two other colors- Congac and Fushia.

Kukura- $35.00

Now, for the dramatic ladies like moi, I LOVE LOVE to add some drama to a simple outfit. You can simply wear a print and it literally changes your outfit. But a wedge and print?! Now that's drama!  This printed wedge looks great with shorts or a romper and it makes your legs look gorg! ( You know I'm all about the legs) You can play around by putting a bright nail polish! This style is available in black and nude as well.

Kardd- $129.00

Have fun this weekend. Look fabulous and share this post with other fashionistas!

I am Beautiful. I am ME

As you have all noticed,  I have not been able to sit down and chat with you all in a very long time. Yesterday was my last day in college and this morning I woke up, not only feeling successful but truly humbled. As I sit here, I start to reminisce on all the beautiful moments that I was able to experience throughout my four years in college. It is a pleasure to inform you that my senior project " I am Beautiful. I am ME!" was a complete success. To re-freshen your memories," I am Beautiful. I am ME!" was executed on April 28, 2012. It's mission was to encourage self- respect, self- empowerment, the acceptance of uniqueness and the celebration of being a young female through fun filled workshops. We had over 15 sponsors and the entire event was free of cost. The participants had a ball. The atmosphere was filled with smiles and laughter. It felt so wonderful to know that there are people in the world who still cherish the simple things in life. Please scroll below and check out the pics and video. Enjoy!

Keep your colour...even in nasty weather!!!

So in September, I decided to abandon my black hair and step into the red/burgundy world.  Because my hair was soooo dark, it took so much work to finally get to the shade that I wanted. I am absolutely in love with my hair. Not only do I get stopped in the streets and asked how I got to that shade but its so daring and makes me feel "sexy"

Many people who colour their hair find trouble maintaining the colour- especially reds. I was asked to speak about how I treat my hair and how the colour stay so vibrant. I only retouch my roots once a month- therefore, I work hard to maintain the colour! :)

1. Moisturize! Because of the harsh dry winds, your hair is automatically attacked and it can become very brittle. Therefore, I use Argan oil everyday. I usually inspect my ends and moisturize them. You don't have to put the entire bottle! Just take a pea size amount of the oil and distribute it through your hair.

2. Avoid washing your hair everyday! Even though you may use permanent dye, it still can come out. Every time I wash my hair, I see the water turning red. So avoid washing your hair so much! It takes out the natural nutrients- leaving your hair dry and no shine.

3. Trim ends! (that says it all!)

4. Use protective products! Because I am obsessed with my wand, I curl my hair alot- every other day! But I load alot of protective products so that the heat can burn the product and not my hair.

5. Avoid tying up your hair- When you are going to bed, instead of tying your hair up, wrap it! Hair ties can break your hair! Trust me, I learned that the hard way!

Below are the products that I use! You can find them in your local beauty supply store, drug store, Target and etc!

Protect your hair!!!

MAXI DRESSES to WIDE LEG ROMPERS

Maxi dresses

My ultimate favorite pieces- Maxi dresses and wide leg rompers. UGHHHH!!! Not only is it a full outfit, meaning that you put it on and you are ready to go but they are also comfortable because they do not stick on you when its warm outside. I personally love maxi dresses and wide leg rompers because they work well with most body shapes. They cover the right areas and eventuate your lovely curves. The nude colors are easy to pair with a jean jacket, bright blazer or even a light wight brimmed hat. Check the lovely pictures below :) I have also included a picture of me with a wide leg romper that I bought in Italy.
