Move over belts...Sashes are in!

Sashes are in ladies! To me, this is an amazing news. If I am wearing a flowy top or dress, I love to wear a belt because it accentuates my waist. I have an athletic structure and I basically have to work with what I have.lol. But back to belts and sashes. Sashes are so pretty and elegant! Whether you just use a black one or if you get creative and chose prints. They add a delicate touch to your outfit because they are lighter and more flexible than belts. And the best part is that you are able to recycle those thin scarves you no longer use and make them into sashes! Its all about making it work and looking unique while doing it!
If you like this, please email some pictures of you rocking this look and I would love to post them here! Email pictures to Genesiscmg@gmail.com

Celebrating Black History Month- Fashion Icon of the Week

Josephine Baker

As I searched the web to find African American style icons, I stumbled across "All the Rage" which seems to be a blog connected to LA times. I bumped into a picture of the stunning and elegant " Creole Goddess" Josephine Baker. ( birth name: Freda Josephine McDonald) Baker is not only known for her beauty, elegance and spectacular singing and dancing but she was a civil rights activist.  She is also known for her beautiful dresses and sensual swag that stole everyone´s breath.
Born in St. Louis Missouri on June 3rd, 1906 and died in France on April 12, 1975.  Just to give a brief summary of her wonderful acts, she toured around the United States and France with many production teams. She also performed for the troops during WWII and was awarded  "Medal of the Resistance with Rosette" and named "Chevalier of the Legion of honor" by the French gov´t. In the 50´s and 60´s, she fought racism in NYC and NAACP dedicated May 20th as a day of dedication to Josephine Baker.

Check her biography out by clicking her name above which is higlighted in pink.

Fashionistas in Spain

I would like to apologize for not posting in so long. I've been in a total culture shock here in Barcelona. I am absorbing as much as possible and trying to learn my way around town. I totally love it here! I don't know if 4 months will be enough for me-but lets see how this goes.
As I walk down the streets, I can not help but notice how everyone here dresses so amazingly! I love how they use so many different styles and wear their outfits with so much confidence! I've been trying to take pictures of fly pedestrians but my camera just literally died on me, so I'm taking it to the Camera Doctors. lol. Here is a picture of what is currently in:
People really dress like this daily...I am not lying...Wonderful right?

1st Outfit: Red looks amazing on any complexion. It is a great bright color to mix in if you are not very open on wearing colors. A red piece in an all black outfit creates instant glam. A flowy skirt paired with dark stockings. I have a new love with wearing pumps and dark stockings. a. I am not going to be cold b. It looks absolutely Chic and c. It smoothens the outfit out- in which you can wear it during the day and during the night.  You can play around with a biker jacket.
2nd Outfit:  This is one of the easiest looks from the four- I believe. This outifit consists of a t-shirt, skinny jeans but you can wear jeggings, booties, a jacket( biker jacket, cropped sweater) and since its cold- put a cute scarf on. This outfit is supposed to look like you didn't work hard at putting it together. You can play around with different textures and colors! Be creative
3rd Outfit: Okay. I am not going to lie. This is the outfit that I might think twice about wearing. I love everything except the harem pants. To this day, I still have not found harem pants that fit me well. I don't know but harem pants are not for every body. Therefore, you need to try different styles and see which one works best for you. But besides that, this is another easy outfit. There are many things that you can modify because its colder in the States than here. The jacket can be subsituted to a fur jacket ( keeps you warm and looks cute) Instead of the heels, you can wear booties. The outfit is a bit too plain for me. I would wear more accessories to make the outfit pop and I would wear my hair up. I would also add bright leather gloves.
4th Outfit: Although this outfit may seem like she got dressed in the dark- I LOVE IT. Its so bad ass! I love using different textures and colors- it sets you apart. I am all for being different. However, if you care what people will say about you- then don't wear it. Being different will cause people to hate- that's why confidence is needed. Here in Spain, no one cares. Fashion is self expression. Fashion is from head to toe- including your attitude which is something that I admire. I would add black tights because its cold- but I would keep the booties. Although different colors and patterns are used, they all go perfectly because the dress is neutral.

Please comment below and let me know what you want me to talk about next time!!!!

BIG BRIMMED HATS

As you guys all know, I am in Barcelona, Spain. I will be touring around Europe so that I can keep all of you readers up to date with the hottest fashion, music and lifestyle. As I roamed the streets of Barcelonetta, I realized that Spaniards are very trendy. The distressed look is in. They are very big about comfort and literally look good at the same time- which is a plus! However, the chic and sophisticated look is also big here. I came across people who were wearing lovely "brimmed hats" As I shopped around, I found the perfect one and its sooo comfortable and trendy. You need to try several ones on because they all have a different shape. Not only they keep the sun out of your face, but they look amazing with trench coats and jackets as well. I will be posting up pictures soon ( internet is veryyy slow in Barcelona!) Meanwhile, check out the ones that Style.com picked out! Hasta Luego!! :)

What the HECK is a "Man Bag"!!!!?????

There is nothing I can say to convince "Lyrics" to wear a "MAN BAG" He says that if looks like a purse and a woman is wearin something similar "It's un- manly" So I am going to break it down to the fellas out there who feel that a "Man Bag" is the most un-manly thing out.

1. Why a "Man Bag"? A "Man bag" can look like a gym bag to a laptop bag where you can fit many other things. It also resembles a duffle bag. I personally believe that men out there feel weird about this trend because of it's name. It can sound a bit "un-manly" but you don't have to carry it like a purse or even consider it a man bag.

2. What "Macho" Man is using one? Surprisingly, many hip hop, pop, rock artists and etc are using them. Again, I personally don't see them as "man purses" but as duffles. The other day, I bumped into a "Rich Yung" Man bag aka Duffle and it was FIRERY!!!! There are also the Gucci's and the Louis Vuitton if ya wanna stunt. But they can be found in H&M, forever 21, Urban Outfitters and etc!

Men, stop thinking that "Man bags" are queer or metrosexual. Its just a duffle bag with the name of "Man bag" lol. Its just a replacement of that old ass bookbag that some of ya'll been carrying around since 3rd grade.  You can put all your manly stuff in there! Step out of your comfort! Now, Let me see if I can get Lyrics to rock one for me :) Wish me luck!
