5 minutes with the Prince of the BX- Devo D.

My ears are precious- which makes me very cautious of what I listen to. BUT when it comes to Devo D., my ears become glued to the speakers that is bumpin' his songs. I had the chance to sit down and chat with the sensational Devo D after the release of his new single with T-Pain ft. Devo D. himself.  Devo D. entered the T-pain contest and I am positive that he has the win. Let's wish him luck and read  what he had to say!

1. where are you from?

A: The Castle Hill section of The Bronx, NY.

2. when did you first start singing and where did your name originate from?

A: I've been singing for as long as I can remember. And writing poetry and rapping as far back as the 3rd grade. I came up singing in church, and in schools plays and talent shows. When I was younger I was a HUGE wrestling fan. That was what I wanted to be before I took music seriously. So I named my wrestling alter ego "Devo Diamond". I dropped the "N" from my birth name (Devon). And added "Diamond". I thought a diamond is priceless. It takes years to make, and can only be made under extreme pressure. (Like growing up in the roughest projects in The Bronx with only one parent). Diamonds are something everyone wants, but not everyone can obtain. Plus there a girl's best friend. ;) lol. So that's the name I used for music for those 1st few yrs. As I got older it didn't seem to fit me anymore. So I swagged it out and shortened it to "DeVo D.". The "D" standing for determined, dominating, dope. Anything positive that could be used to define me.

3. What type of genre or style do you consider your music?

I feel like music is to big and broad to continue to be generalized. I'm a vocalist. Anything involving vocals, I can do. And if I can't I wanna learn how. My music takes influences from several different things. R&B, Hip-Hop, Pop, and even Gospel.

4. Who is your target audience?

Anyone with ears. Lol. Anyone who listens to an appreciates music. Especially the lady listeners. Lol.

5. What and who inspires you? Who would you like to work with and why.

Music itself inspires me. Creating something new. Something dope. Seeing the situations I've gone through, or the stories I tell in my mind come to fruition. Along with that, the thought of a better life. I like at the top artist that DO this n that inspires me to go harder to get to that level. As a writer, as a performer. As an artist in general.

6. What are your accomplishments thus far as an artist?

A: I've been blessed to have the opportunity to work with some amazing artists. I've been on records with people like Memphis Bleek, Dynasty, B.X.L., Da Youngfellaz and several others. And I look to work with many more. I've received vocal and stage training from celebrity vocal coach Craig Derry. I've practiced dance at the renowned Broadway Dance Academy.  I was nominated for a couple awards a few years back. In February of 2010 I released my first mixtape "R&BX: Rhythm & The Bronx". But all those things fail in comparison to the things I'm GONNA do. Lord willing..

5 minutes with New Blak!!!

As we all know, fashion is ALWAYS changing. And with speaking about change, I think about the eclectic and dope line "New Blak" I had the chance to chat with the CEO, Founder and designer- Edward Robinson.

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
     I am from Newburgh, NY

WHEN DID YOUR LINE ORIGINATE?
New Blak originated at about or around 2002. Although it started out being called B.Y.N.O. (Being Young is Never Old), I got the name New Blak when I was working one day and was reading a magazine and I realized that at the time Celebrities had gone really far to make everything the “New Black”. A co-worker and myself were discussing the trend of things and he simply said why don’t you change the name of your company to New Black. And sure enough I did but that name was taken already so I just dropped the C in Blak and never looked back.

WHAT WAS AND IS YOUR INSPIRATION?

My Inspiration for New Blak  started out with being a Trendy, High end Tee Shirt boutique, but then I realized I’m not just about Tee Shirts I am Fashion. I want not just a line but an entire Empire that generates and exudes Opulence, luxury but very affordable. New Blak’s Inspiration now is Different Styles merging together and creating New Trends.

 WHO IS YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE?
My target audience is really Everyone. I don’t think that you’re a real Designer if you can’t design for people of all shapes and sizes. ( For pictures of the line, please view the "Music and Style" post where a video is posted with New Blak)

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF AND YOUR LINE 5 YEARS FROM NOW?
I see myself running a multi-million dollar company and changing the face of the fashion industry, and as far as New Blak , in 5 years being a huge company not just a line and SUCCESS, changing fashion yet again and showing people that if  you have a dream and Passion to fuel your dream then you can do it too.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS FAR AS A DESIGNER?
New Blak has gotten tons of press and Media exposure locally i.e. Times Herald Record, HV Magazine, Echo magazine Online, Orange magazine, Lyrics and lipstick Blogspot.com. New Blak still continues to get press and media exposure through major red carpet events and exclusive invite only parties, Some Celebrities and Celebrity Stylists as well as Publicists.
